Things that helped me get through chronic Giardia (ugh!)…

Hi! My name is Winnipeg Pumpkin. My mom suggested that I write up a blog to share what helped get through my Giardia. Soon after my mom and dad brought me home as a pup they found out I had Giardia. It was not fun for me, my mom and dad because it was chronic. Regular medicine would not work to get rid of it. I had it for almost 6 months. It was hard for me because I could not meet my whole family like puppy cousins and their human parents because Giardia is infectious to pups and even young humans. My mom and dad had to constantly clean up my environment to help my immune system heal itself. My mom did not want to use harsh chemicals like bleach so she researched other things to keep things clean.

Here are the things my mom and dad got that helped get through Giardia:

2. Puppy Pads:

What also helped was puppy pads . When my mom and dad brought me home they started potty training with me and I started to go in the backyard. But soon after they learned I had Giardia I had to stop using the backyard. What they did instead was set out puppy pads on our patio so that I could use the bathroom. These are the puppy pads they used and ordered on repeat until I was Giardia-free:

3. Wipes:

Also my mom and dad got me these wipes and used them regularly to keep me clean and tidy. My mom still uses these wipes to keep me clean:

4. Backpack:

Also, the other thing that was useful was getting me a backpack to put me in so that they could take me out to see the world. If you are a puppy and have Giardia like I did, you can’t socialize with other dogs or poop in public places because you can infect other pups and potentially people and small kids. My mom and dad got this bag so they could bring me on their walks around the neighborhood and so that I could check out my home town safely without infecting anyone.

5. Diet:

Other things that helped me was adding pureed pumpkin and blueberries to my diet. I am not a veterinarian so this is not veterinary advice, I am just sharing diet things that helped me!

I hope this is helpful!
